Bible Scavenger Hunt privacy policy
Effective October 15, 2026
Bible Scavenger Hunt is published by Wittenberg Digital for iPhone and Android. It's free to download, and a yearly subscription unlocks everything. It has no ads and no accounts, and never asks for your name, email address, contacts or location. This policy explains the little it does collect and why.
Stays on your device
- Your hunt in progress, Daily Hunt results and streaks, and your totals, such as hunts finished and items found.
- The team names you type and the things you add under My items. They never leave your phone.
- Your settings, such as audience, sounds, haptics and keeping the screen on.
- Your choice about sharing usage statistics.
None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it. If your phone backs up app data to iCloud or your Google account, the backup can include it, stored under your account. We can't see it.
Using your device
- The game never uses your camera, photos or location. Hunters show what they found to each other, not to the app.
- If you tap Share the list or Share, the app passes the clue list or a short summary of your result to your phone's share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.
Anonymous usage statistics
Unless you turn statistics off, the game sends us anonymous events so we can tell which parts of it are used, spot items and questions that are too hard or possibly wrong, and check that updates arrive. Every event contains only its name, the platform (iOS or Android), the app version, the app's own ID and the details below. Examples:
- That the game was opened. We count one open when you start it, and another when you return to it after 30 minutes or more away.
- Which screens are viewed.
- That a hunt was started or ended, with its mode, place, audience, number of items and teams, timer and clue style, and how many items were found.
- For each find: which item it was (or just "your own item" for something you added), its place and whether the riddle's answer was shown first.
- For each bonus question: which item it was for and whether the answer was right.
- That a Daily Hunt was finished, with its date, how many items were found and your streak.
- That a result or the clue list was shared, with its mode.
- That a newer set of items was downloaded, with its version number.
These events carry no device ID or other identifier, and our server doesn't store your IP address with them, so they can't be connected to you or to each other. We can't tell which days you played or follow your scores over time.
Turning statistics off
Open Settings in the game and turn off Share anonymous usage statistics. The game then stops sending usage events. Everything else works the same.
New items and questions
From time to time the game downloads its latest items and questions from wittenbergdigital.org. The request names only the platform and app version. Like any website, the server receives your device's IP address when the game connects to it.
The subscription
On iPhone and iPad, Apple sells and bills the subscription through the App Store, under your Apple Account. The game asks the App Store on your device whether your subscription is active. To cancel, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
On Android, Google sells and bills the subscription through Google Play, under your Google account. The game asks Google Play on your device whether your subscription is active. To cancel, open the Google Play app and go to Payments & subscriptions.
We never receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple and Google give us only their standard sales reports.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads, and the game contains no code from advertising companies.
- We don't sell data or share it with data brokers.
- We don't use your phone's advertising identifier, create a device ID, or register your phone for push notifications.
- We don't use your location or contacts.
- We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you've chosen in your phone's settings to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple or Google may send us anonymous crash reports and usage totals for the game. That comes from your phone's settings, not from the game, and you can turn it off there.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date above. Questions? Email support@wittenbergdigital.org.
